E-health startup, The hearX Group, have announced the broadening of their product scope with ‘hearScope’, a world-first mobile solution for accurate diagnosis of ear disease, through a crowdfunding campaign on IndieGoGo.
The Pretoria-based company, which developed the hearScreen App, which accurately detects hearing loss and links patients to health services, will launch the solution on the 1st of August.
HearScope is a diagnostic aid for doctors, nurses and healthcare providers but can also be used by parents to track and monitor their children’s ear health.
“Supporting the hearScope crowdfunding initiative will enable our backers to be directly involved in the pivotal aspect of enabling the hearScope product to reach the people that need it most. We’re also offering up to 35% discount to backers who sign up via our landing page prior to the launch,” states the company in a press statement.
The high-quality variable magnification otoscope “pen” connects to a smartphone running the hearScope application. In future, hearScope will be enhanced with image analysis software and artificial intelligence systems to provide accurate, automated diagnoses of the most common forms of ear disease.
HearScope aims to shed light on ear disease.
“Middle ear infection (Otitis Media) is one of the most common reasons for visiting a doctor. Its complications are a leading cause of preventable hearing loss in the developing world and globally hearing loss associated with middle ear infections, affects 330 million people every year. An otoscope is the most common tool for diagnosing ear disease and our digital technology is revolutionizing this tool for use with a smartphone by anyone, anywhere,” the company says.
