Types of cleaning business

Professional cleaning services are in high demand nowadays. With most people wanting to outsource cleaning their personal belongings and homes, you can make a good profit by entering the sector. The only thing you need to decide on is which type of cleaning business you want to start.

A cleaning services company is a business that offers cleaning services for residential and commercial spaces. These companies provide a range of services, including deep cleaning, normal cleaning, and specialised cleaning services like car cleaning, carpet washes, and window cleaning amongst many others.

If you are an entrepreneur looking to start a cleaning services company, you have many options. You don’t have to just clean homes, you can use other types of cleaning services which are profitable.

In this article, we look at the different types of cleaning businesses that are available and which one is best for you.

General House Cleaning Business

This type of cleaning business is typically for residential cleaning. People use general house cleaning services to clean their houses, once or twice a week or month.

If you start this type of cleaning business, you will be cleaning all surfaces and objects of a home. This includes the kitchen, washing dishes, mopping floors and (sometimes) wiping down windows. Some jobs can also include polishing floors and mirrors.

If you decide to do general house cleaning, you should target customers who are too busy to tend to their household chores. This is usually people whose jobs keep them busy and senior executives who are always travelling.

To earn extra profit, you can add more cleaning services such as spring cleaning/deep cleaning or move-in/move-out cleaning options.

Pressure Washing Business

The pressure washing business can be a very profitable business. People need the service to keep their driveways, outside walls, fences and garden paths clean. If you decide to start this business, you will need a jet washer. The jet washer is used to expel a string stream of water which helps clean the mentioned surfaces and remove grime.

This business does not mean only washing outside walls, but you can also help with paint removal, upkeep and restoration. This might not seem like a profitable business, but it is because most people can’t afford a pressure washer or maintain it.

Additionally, you can provide extra services such as roof cleaning, gutter cleaning and window cleaning.

Window Cleaning Business

Cleaning windows is not just a residential service but also a commercial one. Because the act of cleaning windows can be dangerous, most businesses outsource professionals to clean their windows. For residential areas, window cleaning is popular because it is a hard job to do, and most people don’t have time.

As a window cleaner, you specialise in more than just cleaning windows. You also do cursory wiping of internal glass and clean window-sills. Basically, you are an expert in cleaning windows which can be difficult to access for your customers.

Kitchen Cleaning Business

This is probably the most profitable cleaning business. Kitchen cleaning involves a complete cleaning of the kitchen with an emphasis on areas which require high levels of hygiene. These can include worktops for food preparations, food cabinets and food storage facilities. Additionally, you also need to thoroughly clean spaces like fridges, freezers, microwaves and (sometimes) coffee makers.

Because a clean kitchen is important, you can also get contracted to clean office kitchen spaces or even restaurants. This presents a way to make extra profit through your kitchen cleaning business.

Carpet Cleaning Business

Carpets are prone to gathering a lot of dust and grime and these bacteria can be harmful to those around them. A carpet cleaning business can help solve these problems while gaining a profit.

You can profit from cleaning the carpets of individual homes and office spaces. You can price your services by size and labour needed. The bigger the carpet and the more labour needed to clean it, the more money for you.

Additionally, you can provide freelance carpet cleaning services for event spaces or individual events. Basically, you can put the sparkle into a red carpet.

Laundry Service Business

This might not seem like a typical cleaning business, but it is. Laundry services are in very high demand. With washing machines being expensive and residential spaces not offering a laundry service, people will pay to have their clothes washed.

You can make a good profit by opening a laundry business. You can offer different packages with different types of laundry services (wash, dry, iron/steam and fold). Additionally, you can make even more money by offering to do the laundry of businesses that wear uniforms or approach a sports team that doesn’t have its own laundry service.

These are just a few examples of the cleaning businesses you can start. These business ideas can be built quickly and typically gain profit really quickly. Before you start offering your services, research which areas to target, determine the costs of starting and then determine the prices for your services.

If you are determined, you can combine these different businesses into one big cleaning business. This will guarantee more money but also it will be a lot of work
