The state of marketing, media, and brand growth is constantly evolving, and often, business owners are caught up in running the business, leaving no time for marketing efforts.
In such cases, the solution is to outsource professionals who have the skill and knowledge to help your business grow through marketing. Marketing is more than a few social media posts and trendy captions; it’s all about looking at the bigger picture and granting your business the exposure it needs to succeed.
In this installment of SME South Africa Founder Focus, we have a chat with Kopano Moshoana. Moshoana is an experienced marketing extraordinaire, the founder of KPRM Media Solutions and the Co-Founder of Sorted VA.
Blending Strategy With Execution
With an academic background in marketing and digital strategy, Moshoana received the foundation needed to understand how to approach marketing and adjust to its ever-changing dynamics. Moshoana fell in love with storytelling and helping brands grow through meaningful marketing, which led to the creation of KPRM Media Solution. However, she noticed a gap in the market, a need for a business that provides actionable solutions.
“I realised that while strategy is important, so many entrepreneurs struggle with the actual day-to-day execution that keeps their businesses moving. That’s where Sorted Virtual Assistance came in,” she explains.
Sorted Virtual Assistance serves as a way of bridging the gap by offering entrepreneurs the operational support they need, freeing them from administrative burdens to focus on growth. The two businesses complement each other beautifully because one focuses on creating strategies, while the other ensures that the daily tasks are in alignment with the strategy.
Industry Shifts and the Need to Adapt
Marketing is a constantly evolving field, requiring entrepreneurs to either adapt or risk being left behind. This dynamic environment presented one of Moshoana’s most significant challenges.
“My biggest challenge has been keeping up with how fast the industry shifts while maintaining balance and staying grounded in what really works for my clients,” she explains.
When companies start trimming business budgets, marketing tends to be the first to face massive cuts. Moshoana explained that proving the value of marketing in environments where budgets are tight and immediate results are expected can be challenging. “I’ve overcome my challenges in business by investing in continuous learning, being adaptable, and showing clients the bigger picture of how marketing builds long-term success. It’s about staying agile but never losing sight of purpose,” Moshoana says.
Money and Marketing
Business growth isn’t just about the money you start with. Through her journey, Moshoana learned that growth doesn’t always come through monetary means. “I started with very little capital, mostly bootstrapping and reinvesting what I earned back into the business. I also leaned into collaboration, free tools, and networks that could open doors without always requiring money upfront,” she says.
Some individuals who wish to start a business may feel that they need to have a hefty capital injection. However, entrepreneurs like Kopano Moshoana are proof that even without much, one can build a successful business.
“My advice to other entrepreneurs is to start with what you have and focus on building relationships. The truth is you don’t need everything figured out from day one, but you do need grit, creativity, and the courage to keep going even when it’s hard,” Moshoana says.
A Marketing Extraordinaire
Industry awards are a great way to recognise entrepreneurs who are making great strides in the industry. Not only that, but awards can also expose entrepreneurs to new opportunities. Kopano Moshoana received the Outstanding Leadership Award at the Marketing 2.0 Conference in Dubai Winter Edition 2022.
“This award was a reminder that the work I’m doing matters and that the journey, with all its ups and downs, is worth it. Personally, it gave me the confidence to step even more boldly into my role as a leader. Professionally, it opened doors to new and broader networks and opportunities,” says Moshoana.
Evolving in the World of Marketing
Kopano has big plans for herself and the companies she runs. “I see myself continuing to evolve as a leader who combines marketing and technology in ways that serve Africa and beyond,” she says. She aims to continue striking a balance between helping businesses build solid strategies while providing the manpower needed to implement those strategies.
“For KPRM Media, the vision is to keep being the home of conscious marketing, and for Sorted Virtual Assistance, to scale in a way that creates even more opportunities for young people, especially women. Over the next decade, I want both companies to stand as proof that business can be impactful, profitable, and purposeful all at once,” Moshoana concludes.
