In just four short years, William Mokgethi has moved from being one of millions of South Africans vying for scarce jobs to an up and coming businessman providing transport services to mining firms in the country’s North West province.
Armed with 15 years of experience in the transport sector, Mokgethi established Montsamaisa Bosigo Transport (MBT) in 2013, initially ferrying commuters and school children, but now primarily offering corporate shuttle and door-to-door courier services.
Mokgethi participated in state electricity utility Eskom’s Business Investment Competition in 2016 and 2017, where he made it to the finals and amassed valuable new skills to grow the venture.
“Taking part in it also helped me in growing my confidence,” he says.
From humble beginnings, MBT’s assets now include two mini-bus taxis for public transport, four sedan cars for corporate shuttles and transfers as well as a truck (known as a bakkie in South Africa) for couriers and deliveries.
The company, based in the northwestern town of Rustenberg, employs five people and boasts mining firms Lonmin, Sibanye, Impala and Shanduka Black Umbrella among its clients.
“We are looking at going into trucking as well and to this end, we are currently working on registering with the Southern Africa Tourism Services Association,” Mokgethi said. (via African News Agency)
