Cape-based tech incubator Silicon Cape has partnered with Journey, an app company, on a new tech initiative. The Journey Startup Programme will help train 1000 local startups and small businesses to build their own apps.
Journey is a web tool for building business apps and is used globally by companies such as UK-based G4S, the world’s largest security company, and UK telecoms giant Vodafone.
“The Journey platform makes building business apps accessible to people who aren’t traditionally technical” said Gerdus Byleveld, CEO of Journey.
The program will offer startups and developers free access to the Journey platform and free workshops for both new and experienced developers to learn how to build and sell mobile apps.
“Our goal has always been to create a thriving ecosystem of startups,” said Silicon Cape chairperson Alexandra Fraser, adding that this development proves that their community building efforts have started paying off.
Byleveld added that there have already been a few beta testers that have gone through the program and seen success. “One of the early testers, someone who had never sold software in his life, managed to get a paying client in the first week,” he said.
