Venture Capital (VC) Firms

While many VCs focus on later-stage companies, some specialise in “pre-seed” or “seed” funding. These firms will invest in pre-revenue startups, but they have high expectations. They’re looking for a massive market opportunity, a clear vision for growth, and an exceptional, dedicated founding team. Their investment is a bet on your ability to scale quickly and dominate a market.

What to Focus On Instead of Revenue

If you don’t have revenue, you need to prove your concept and team in other ways. When applying for funding, be ready to showcase the following:

  • A Solid Business Plan & Pitch Deck: This document must clearly articulate your value proposition, market research, business model, and financial projections. It is your roadmap to success.
  • A Minimum Viable Product (MVP) or Prototype: A functional product, even in its most basic form, demonstrates that your idea is more than just a concept. It proves you can build something tangible.
  • Market Validation: Show that people actually want what you’re building. This could be through market research, customer interviews, or a list of beta users.
  • An Exceptional Team: Investors back people as much as ideas. Highlight the experience, skills, and commitment of your founding team. Show why you are the right people to solve this problem.
