More funding for informal traders in Gauteng

The South African Footwear and Leather Export Council will collaborate with the Western Cape province’s tourism, trade and investment promotion agency Wesgro and the Eastern Cape Development Corporation to support 12 South local companies exhibiting at a shoe and accessories fashion fair in Brazil.

Wesgro said the firms would showcase footwear and handbags of traditional African design at the July 16-19 expo in São Paulo.

“The steady growth of trade with the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) countries has allowed South Africa and the Western Cape to diversify its export markets beyond its traditional partners in Europe and the United States,” Wesgro CEO, Tim Harris said.

“Our trade with Brazil is still largely dominated by alcohol and wine, and such missions will allow us to boost manufactured exports, diversifying our trading relationship.” (via Africa News Agency)
